A booth that looks fine sitting empty can hide worn frames, a failing fan, dead seals, and a compliance history that does not transfer. Check that intake ceiling grids are flat and complete, that exhaust frames are square and hold media without gaps, and that latches and clips still seat filters tightly. Rust bleeding through a frame or a warped grid that will not seal are red flags — unfiltered air finds every gap. 2. Filter media condition

The filters in the booth right now are a diagnostic report. Heavily caked, dripping exhaust media means the booth was run well past change points — expect a loaded fan and dirty ductwork. 3. Fan and motor

Power it up if you can. Listen for bearing whine, grinding, or vibration, and watch for a wheel caked with overspray (which throws it out of balance and kills airflow). Check the belt for cracks and glazing, confirm the motor nameplate matches the booth's rating, and verify the wheel spins the correct direction. A tired fan or a seized motor is one of the most expensive parts to replace — factor it heavily.

4. Door seals and cabinet integrity

Walk the whole cabinet. Door seals that are cracked, flattened, or missing let unfiltered air in and let booth pressure out — both wreck your finish and your balance. 6. Lighting

Dead or dim lights hurt finish quality and can be a safety issue. Confirm fixtures power on, lenses are intact and sealed (a cracked lens in a spray environment is a hazard), and coverage is even with no dark corners. 7. Compliance and permit transferability

This is the item that can quietly sink a deal. A booth that was compliant for the seller is not automatically compliant for you at your address.
