The 98% exhaust rule (NESHAP 6H)
Your exhaust filter is a regulated control device, not just a consumable. Under the federal area-source rule (NESHAP Subpart 6H, 40 CFR 63.11173(e)(2)(i)), the exhaust filter technology must be demonstrated to capture at least 98% of paint overspray by weight, verified by a recognized method such as ANSI/ASHRAE 52.2-2017 or EPA Method 319 (a 100-gram dust challenge). That standard is arrestance — capture by weight, not a “98% at 3 microns” particle rating, which is vendor shorthand rather than the rule.
